The Simplicity of a DIAC Display
A DIAC display is an electronically simple display device. Each pixel contains 3 components. A DIAC acts like an automatic ON/OFF switch. A capacitor stores ON/OFF memory states and limits power consumption. LEDs emit light while the DIAC is ON. The capacitor acts much like a battery; turning the DIAC OFF once it is charged.
Other Advantages of a DIAC Displays
Here are a few of the advantages of a DIAC display:
- It is an emissive technology; no backlight is required;
- Solid-state operation provides stable operating characteristics;
- 100% of the "discharge" current flows through emissive elements to create light;
- They can be made with available electronic components;
- They should be easier to fabricate than Thin Film Transistors(TFT);
- They utilize LEDs and OLEDs for high luminous efficiency;
- Their operating voltage and power can be designed-in;
- Each illumination cell limits its own power.
